FAQPage schema, explained (and its status in 2026)
FAQPage marks up a page of questions and answers. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026 and removed its FAQ documentation in June 2026, so the markup no longer produces anything in Google Search. It is still valid schema.org; keep it only where it matches questions and answers visible on the page.
What happened
- August 2023: Google limited FAQ rich results to "well-known, authoritative government and health websites" and said other sites would no longer see them regularly (Google blog).
- May 2026: Google added a deprecation notice; the feature stopped appearing from 7 May 2026.
- June 2026: the FAQ structured data documentation was removed.
When it first limited the feature, Google said there was no need to proactively remove the markup: structured data that isn't used doesn't cause problems for Search, but has no visible effect either.
What it's for now
FAQPage is still part of schema.org: "a WebPage presenting one or more Frequently asked questions". It states plainly which questions a page answers, which other systems that read structured data can use. The questions and answers should be on the page in plain text anyway, because that is what people and AI systems read.

Common mistakes
- Expecting FAQ dropdowns in Google. They are gone for every site; broken markup isn't the reason.
- Marking up questions that aren't visible, or answers that differ from the page text. Google's general guidelines forbid marking up content readers can't see.
- Using FAQPage for a single question with user answers. That is a
QAPage. - Adding FAQ sections only for markup. Write questions customers actually ask.
