Article and BlogPosting schema, explained

By Joel Maldonado, Neural Command, LLC · Last reviewed 21 October 2026

Article, BlogPosting and NewsArticle describe written content. Google has no required properties; it recommends headline, image, datePublished, dateModified and author, and strongly recommends giving each author a type and a url or sameAs so it can tell who wrote the piece.

What it's for

Article is for news, blog posts, guides and similar writing. BlogPosting and NewsArticle are subtypes; Google's Article documentation covers all three. Google says the markup helps it understand the page and show better title text, images and dates (Google: Article).
